In a surprising and audacious twist, the final season of Game of Thrones will reveal that the previous seven series of the popular boobs and monsters show were all a dream of Ned Stark.
The revelation will allow cast members previously thought dead to return for the final chapter in the story.
“It just seemed a shame if we couldn’t bring back great characters like Rob Stark, Hodor, and naked woman 4,” said showrunner D. B. Weiss.
“So, we figured what the heck. Let’s do it, the fans would love it.
“We had a bunch of ideas how best to bring them back – Rob turning up going ‘actually they missed’ – Renly going ‘it was just smoke, I’m fine’ – but nothing seemed to quite work.
“Then David [Benioff] just went ‘make everything Ned’s dream’ – well, it was brilliant. Simple, plausible, fits in with everything that happened. It was great.”
The concept of the dream will be introduced in the first episode of the season when the camera moves across a steamy room before settling on a shower, a man’s hand opens it to reveal Catelyn Stark having a wash and then cuts back to the man – Ned – saying ‘I had the strangest dream.’
Mr Weiss revealed that he hadn’t considered bringing back all those dead characters as white walkers.
“No, no, I hadn’t thought of that. Oh, that’s loads better, isn’t it? I wish we’d done that.
“Shit.”
