Minority Report

Everyone lives in the future and it’s all nice because Tom Cruise uses snooker balls to see who’s going to do crimes. But, oh no! One day a snooker ball says it’s Tom who’s going to do the crime so he runs off and gets chased around the future by Colin Farrell in full-on corporate bastard mode. It all gets twisty and, occasionally, turny and, for some reason, Spielberg filmed the whole thing to look like a Playstation 2 game.

Trivia

The snooker balls used to see the future are Championship-grade snooker balls and filming had to be paused while they were returned to the Sheffield Crucible for the Masters

Spielberg got the authentic near-future look by waiting until 2018 to film background scenes

Minority Report was the last time Tom Cruise stood on a box to appear as tall as other actors. CGI has been used to make him appear tall ever since.

Colin Farrell was, at the time of filming, bass player in The Strokes and kept up spirits on the set by playing baselines of ‘Hard To Explain’ and ‘Soma’

Bloopers

During the scene where Tom Cruise holds his breath to hide underwater in the bath, he accidentally died! Filming was completed using Cruise’s stunt double and then a clone of Cruise was created in 2002 who has gone on to have a successful career.

Quotes

“Fancy a quick game of snooker?”
