Marvel fans have become increasingly vocal with their disappointment about Natalie Portman being Thor in the new film in the popular franchise.
“Thor is Thor, right? I mean, he’s a man with long hair and a big hammer,” said Stewart James, a long time Marvel fan.
“That’s Norse mythology going all the way back to the Roman Empire. Thor is always a man. He’s never Natalie Portman. I’ve read loads of Norse mythology, and never once is Thor portrayed as Natalie Portman.
“It’s not like it goes ‘Thor defeated the Trolls at Ragnarok, then gave his hammer to the girl out of Black Swan.’”
“Making her actual Thor is just an insult to those thousands of years of Norse mythology.”
“Imagine if you were a Viking. You’d be like – ‘these are my gods here and I’ve never even heard of Natalie Portman so what’s she there for?’ – and then you’d cut off your enemies heads and drink their blood from their skulls.
“And you’d be right to do so as well!”
Mr James believes an insidious agenda is at work.
“I know what they’re trying to do. They’re just trying to force a woke, feminist agenda on people. I mean, it’s not like there aren’t any female Marvel films. I mean, there was that Captain Marvel wasn’t there. That was for girls. I don’t understand why, if someone wants to see a woman as a superhero, they don’t just go and watch that.
Mr James was happy to accept the other changes to the original mythology that have run throughout the Thor franchise and, indeed, the original Marvel comics, such as making the Norse God of Thunder a superhero in a garish costume who defends the Earth.
“Yes, but those changes didn’t put a woman in the lead role.”

The Marvel cinematic story of “Thor” is not based solely in Norse mythology. It is based on the comic book and in the comics, Thor was played by several different folks; one of which was a woman and it was Jane.
