Details for the follow-up to 2017’s IT indicate that it has been completely recast, leading many to believe that it could actually be a reboot as opposed to a sequel.
Whilst the original IT featured a cast made entirely of children, the new film has changed the characters to be adults and recast them with adult actors. The character names appear to be the same.
“I’m really disappointed,” said Stewart James, a fan of the original.
“I thought the children in the original were excellent and it seems like a real shame to ditch them for the new film.”
IT was a surprise success, even with a cast of unknown children. So, it would seem that the studio believes it can improve on that success by replacing the children with more familiar adult actors including James Mcavoy and Jessica Chastain.
“So, what, they’re just going to give us the same story again with grown-ups going after Pennywise? What’s the point of that?” continued James.
“I mean, the way the first film was left, you’d have thought that this new film would continue the story where it left off with those kids coming back to finally kill him.
“That would be loads better.”
Although the decision is proving controversial, it is not unprecedented, with the Harry Potter films famously replacing their entire young cast on a yearly basis with actors who were a year older than the previous year’s cast.
Is that just a joke or is it teally stupid? I can’t decide whether to laugh or cry. In case you really do not know the original story: in part two the kids do come back to fight Pennywise – but they are grown up than…
Oh good grief…if whomever wrote this had read the book you’d know the story is in two parts. The children facing Pennywise, and the children as adults facing Pennywise. Idiot
This has to be a joke. If not I am speechless. Or why the hell is this person writing for a movie site. The kids can not age 27 years know the story.
Do you know the score material? The story takes place whth the children and then they grow up, so you have the same characters, this is not a reboot. I suggest reading the book to understand the reasons why one movie has the same characters ad children and the sequel has them as adults.
Have some self respect as a “journalist” and delete this article… you’ve obviously never read the book or watched the movie to realize *gasp* the story is a continuation and *gasp* kids grow up.
