Dune sequel to feature much more slapstick humour

Producers have confirmed that the Dune sequel, Dune Part 2, will feature a great deal more slapstick humour than the original.

Dune Part 1 was praised in many quarters for its serious and epic depiction of a fantastic space opera, however many felt that it should have featured more pratfalls, pie-in-the-face gags and buckets of water falling on people’s heads.

“Yeah, it was a shame that the first one didn’t get the slapstick aspect that it deserved,” said Rebecca Ferguson, who returns for the sequel.

“We had filmed a lovely moment where Jason [Momoa]’s character lands on Arrakis, steps off his spaceship and slips on a banana skin. It was terrific, Jason can really land a pratfall, but sadly it didn’t make the edit.

“Looking back at that picture, the lack of slapstick does seem to distract from what is otherwise some really fine work.”

However, it appears that producers don’t intend to make the same mistake with the sequel with director Denis Villeneuve planning eye pokes, face slaps, and a spectacular stair-fall over three storeys.

“Yeah, I think we’ve really nailed the marriage of truly epic, screen-filling space opera and broad physical comedy with the Dune sequel,” claimed Ferguson, proudly.

“A piece where a small squad of Stilgar’s tribe narrowly escape a sandworm and then get gunged and then slide around in the gunge and then the sandworm gets in the gunge and slides around is- well, it’s one for the ages, it really is.”

Inspired by the Dune Part 2 plans, it is understood that the next Avatar sequel will feature many more knob gags and fart jokes than the previous films.
