Dune 3 to be set on the Ewok moon of Endor

Denis Villeneuve has confirmed that the third film in his Dune franchise will take place on the Ewok moon of Endor.

“We are reaching the climax of the story and the best place to set the climax to any great science fiction story is on the forest moon of Endor,” confirmed the director.

“Whilst I’ve been pleased with the pictures so far, they’ve been rather serious affairs, there’s not a great deal in them for children. So, by taking the story to Endor, we can introduce the Ewoks. Lots of cuddly, cute little bears all running about getting into hilarious scrapes and tripping up the baddies and everything. It’ll be lovely.”

It is thought that the third film – officially known as Dune: Messiah – will deviate from the plot of the book with its complex themes of religion and imperialism.

“Yeah, I thought about sticking to that plot,” said Villeneuve.

“But it’s all a bit serious and would mean there’s not really a lot of scope for the Ewoks and their capering so we’ll probably just have Timothee’s character go to Endor and team up with the Ewoks to defeat the baddies and then have a big Ewok party at the end. That should do it.”

Currently filming is planned for this summer with a release for the next year, but special Dune Ewok soft toys should be in the shops for the Holiday season.
