Disappointment at revelation that no women directed films this year

There was widespread disappointment across the movie industry at the revelation that no women directed films during 2019.

The revelation came from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who released a list of nominations for Best Director containing no women. Again.

“Well look, we’re the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, our Oscar nomination list is definitive,” explained Stewart James, a representative of the Academy.

“If there’s no women nominated, then the only reasonable explanation is that no women directed any films this year.”

When the names Mati Diop, Olivia Wilde, Greta Gerwig and Jennifer Kent were mentioned, Mr James looked baffled.

“Well, yes, I mean some of those names seem familiar I suppose, but they can’t have been directed any films or anything or you’d imagine at least one would be on that Best Director list.

“But they’re not, so therefore they can’t have been involved in any films. That’s just basic logic.

“Don’t worry, I’m sure this is just a blip and next year women will direct some films and we might even nominate one if there’s enough room left.

“Like we did last year with Debra Granik, Chloe Zhao and Lynne Ramsey.

“Or we meant to anyway, I’m not sure if we got round to it.”

The news came hot on the heels of the equally disappointing revelation that Little Women appeared to have directed itself.
