It has been announced that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will actually be the second part of a two-part film series, the first of which is called Terry.
Denis Villeneuve’s Terry and Dune will tell the epic story of one man’s attempt to steward the spice-mining planet Arrakis while also securing promotion and golf-club membership during the course one chaotic dinner party.
“It is simply impossible to conceive of Dune without Terry,” explained Villeneuve.
“That is why it was imperative that the one film became two.”
The two seemingly disparate stories will both feature in both films, the first of which begins in early eighties London suburbia where a man explains to his wife that he’s invited his boss round for dinner to discuss the possibility of his promotion.
His wife then reminds him that he’s invited the President of the golf club round at the same time, which was exactly when he was planning to take up stewardship of the planet Arrakis and outwit his enemies who seek to trap him.
The story culminates in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, the second of the two films, in which the man attempts to hold a dinner party for the golf club president in one room, a separate dinner party for his boss in another room and at the same time lead the native Fremen against Baron Harkonnen and his Brutish nephew Glossu Rabban, in an epic battle to gain control of the galaxy’s supply of Spice.
Villeneuve went on to sum up the appeal of the story
“It is a powerful and thoughtful treatise on gender-dynamics, heroism and zen and religion in which a man’s trousers repeatedly fall down as he attempts to serve a lovely black forest gateau.”
