There was confusion and a few red faces at a local pub after Batman misread their ‘barman wanted’ sign.
“Yeah, Geoff had just quit,” explained Nick Kendall, manager of The Silly Buggers pub on the High Street.
“We put up our ‘barman wanted’ sign, and expected probably a student or something. It was only for a few hours at the weekends. We were pretty surprised when the caped crusader rocked up.”
Nick was just cashing up after a particularly busy Wednesday.
“Gave me a fright. I’d locked all the doors and everything then I turned round and Batman was just standing there. Lord knows how he got in.
“He said that he was here to help. That ‘the dark face of crime will trouble us no more.’ I said that was nice of him, but I only needed him behind the bar for a few hours each week and maybe some bottling up.
“Then he got really intense and started going on about how Joker was the madness and evil of the city personified and how he would bring his reign of terror to an end. I told him that we’d never had Joker in here or anything. It’s a pretty well-behaved crowd if anything.”
The pair stood in silence for a moment. That there’d been some sort of misunderstanding was clear.
“Then it clicked and I just went ‘you thought it said batman wanted didn’t you?’”
There was another brief moment of silence as the pair stood staring at each other. Then the Dark Knight then threw down some bat-smoke pellets, and when the smoke had cleared, he was gone.
“Sally took the job in the end. Nice lady. Gets on with everyone.”
In unrelated news, billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne has made an appointment at an opticians.
