‘Bruise on my Heart’ is the moving new film about a teenager banging her foot

A new film based on the Young Adult novel Bruise on my Heart has been in announced in which a teenage girl comes to terms with banging her foot.

“It’s just a beautiful story of resilience in the face of adversity,” explained director Kelly Grace.

“The way Dora reacts to banging her foot with such resilience and good-humour is inspirational.”

The novel, which has proved hugely popular with teenagers but that you’ve never heard of, centres on the character of Dora, a normal teenager who lives in a submarine off the coast of Brighton.

One day, she is walking to school with her best friend Joubray, a flamboyant pansexual ice-cream heiress, when, all of a sudden, Dora bangs her foot on a bench. It’s really quite painful, and she is forced to sit down for a bit and rub it.

The book, and now film, explores how Dora and her friends and family come to terms with the aftermath of her banging her foot really quite painfully like that.

There is also a tentative romance after Dora meets Binlid in the surgery when she’s waiting for treatment for her foot. Binlid has banged his head and the two of them bond over the shared experience of living with a quite painful bang to a part of their body.

“Despite how painful the bang to her foot was, she never loses her good humour and determination to live a normal life,” continued Kelly.

“It’s just a very beautiful, very moving story that will give everyone pause to think about how they would handle banging their foot like that.”

The film is due out early next year and will be accompanied by a soundtrack of dreadful sub-Emo nonsense and Coldplay.
