Billy and Wyatt are wacky undercover cops in hilarious action-comedy reboot of Easy Rider

An Easy Rider reboot is in the works, it has emerged. It will rework the counter-culture classic for the 2020s by making Billy and Wyatt undercover cops working to infiltrate modern-day biker gangs.

“We really, really like money,” explained Stewart James, who is part of the stakeholder consortium looking to produce the reboot.

“And we look at something like Easy Rider and just see a real opportunity to monetise the whole property to a far greater extent than the original did.

“We’ll make it an action comedy, which is a really viable genre with a broad demographic range right now, and we’ll need to make Billy and Wyatt undercover cops so that we don’t end up alienating the older, more conservative potential consumers.”

Mr James has an interesting idea to retcon the 1969 film’s ending that saw Billy and Wyatt gunned down.

“Yeah, we’ll kick off the new film right where the old one ends, but then a scientist arrives, puts the guys in suspended animation and then spends fifty years inventing a cure for being shot in the face.  

“Then he uses plastic surgery and boom! Billy and Wyatt now look like Jake Gyllenhaal and one of the Ryans. After that, Billy and Wyatt are really grateful to the US Government and agree to work for them as undercover cops.

“It’s really clever because they’ll still look like cool hippies, and appeal to the kids, but they’re also cops which means the parents will like them as well, and the whole thing will be a hilarious action-comedy that has broad non-gender specific appeal.

“So, ultimately, we think that we could really end up with quite a lot of money.”

If the Easy Rider reboot proves a success, then Mr James’ consortium are already looking to reboot Quadrophenia as an action-comedy with Jimmy as an undercover policeman who infiltrates mod gangs.

“Hey, we could even feature crossover sequels between the two, and end up with a whole Easy riderverse!” He laughed.
