The Big Sick – Review

The Big Sick

Once again I must return to the plastic grotesquery that goes by the vile linguistic construction of multiplex.

Battling through the foul-smelling hoi-polloi and find I am forced to purchase my own ticket because this absurd blog hasn’t even the journalistic credentials to qualify for critic screenings. How much longer will I be forced to bear such humiliation?

Before taking my seat, I am offered popcorn in a box that could comfortably house a horse. Naturally, I refuse because I’m not an idiot.

Before the film begins, I endure a series of increasingly banal and witless advertisements for poorly constructed European cars and console myself by recalling a magnificent production of Das Rheingold in 1994.

The film begins and later ends with an interminable period of time passing between the two events.

The plot, such as it is, begins with two vapid young people becoming attracted to one another. Shortly afterwards, they become less attracted to each other. Towards the end they find themselves attracted to each other.

There is some business a hospital, but I was distracted by the irksome recollection of a translation error in Elena Ferrante’s magnificent My Brilliant Friend and resolve to reread it in the original Italian.

In short, the whole enterprise was an utter waste of my valuable time.

I refuse to give a star rating as it is utterly reductive and one should take the time to read my piece to understand my critique.
