Batman spin-off ‘Gotham Patisserie’ to focus on fancy baking in Gotham City

A new Batman spin-off has been announced that will highlight the fancy cake business within Gotham City.

Gotham Patisserie will focus on a popular patisserie in Gotham Village and the lives and loves of its staff and customers.

“It’s easy to forget that, alongside Batman, Joker, Commissioner Gordon, Batfink, and all the other colourful characters of Batman lore, there are ordinary people in Gotham City, and those ordinary people need fancy cakes and when they do, they go to a patisserie – that’s what we’re interested in,” explained showrunner Kelly Grace.

The titular Gotham Patisserie is a busy patisserie in the faded bohemian Gotham Village area of town and is run by the tough, no-nonsense Julia O’Grady. A decent woman, she is haunted by an incident in her youth when she went to buy some banana pound cake, and Joker pushed in front of her to get some coffee and a slice of caramel cheesecake.

Ever since then, she has vowed to create a patisserie that puts justice and fairness at the heart of its fancy baking.

“Julia’s great,” said Grace

“But she’s vulnerable too, human and real – she’s having an affair with the manager of a branch of a huge franchise of patisseries. She loves him, but can’t subscribe to his beliefs of big, corporate fancy baking.”

The show will take the bold decision of pushing the big Batman characters to the background to focus on fancy baking.

“You might see Batman order a delivery of croissants, or Killer Croc get a coffee on his way to a murderous rampage. But this show isn’t about them, it’s about real people and their cakes and pastries.”

So confident of Gotham Patisserie’s success are producers that they are already planning a further Batman spin-off – Gotham Fishmonger, about a former Riddler henchman determined to leave his life of crime behind him and become a fishmonger.
