Fans of Bruce Willis’ classic drilling movie Armageddon are said to be thrilled at news that there will be a special screening of the film to take place on an actual meteor.
Site-specific screenings have been popular for some years now, with screenings of Jaws in the shark infected waters off North Africa, of In Bruges in Bruges, and of Basic Instinct in an improbably nice beachfront property in LA.
“The dream though, has been to hold a screening of Armageddon on a meteor. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see that?” said Al DeNiro, who runs the site-specific cinema company Sights At Sites.
The meteor in question – TZ4356 – will come within several million miles of Earth towards the end of 2021, and it is seen as the perfect opportunity for the screening.
“Many years ago, NASA had a choice: either work towards putting a man on Mars with a view to colonising the planet and providing a solution to the mass over-population of Earth expected in the coming years, or figure out a way to put a movie theatre on a meteor,” said NASA representative Bill Hanks
“Naturally, we went for the movie theatre plan. So, we’re pretty much good to go with this screening of Armageddon.”
The screening will take place at some point in the latter half of 2021 and tickets will cost $10,000,000.
