Annual announcement that new Game of Thrones book coming soon delayed due to Covid

George RR Martin’s annual announcement that a new Game of Thrones book is ‘coming along well’ and ‘should be ready soon’ has come later than normal this year due to the Covid virus.

For the past ten years, the annual announcement that the new Game of Thrones book is coming soon has been scheduled for 30th April, but this year it came much later at the end of June.

“It’s this coronavirus thing, it’s just got me a bit turned around. I think it’s the same for most people, isn’t it?” said Martin.

“I’m thinking about making sure I’ve got enough face masks, where my hand sanitizer is, and I’ve got really into The Last Dance on Netflix and before I know what’s happened, time’s got away from me, and I haven’t even made my usual announcement that the new Game of Thrones book is coming along well and should be ready soon.

“So, I’m sorry about that, but I’d like to assure fans that it is coming along well and should be ready soon.”

Game of Thrones fans welcomed the announcement.

“Well, it’s good news that it’s still coming along well and should be ready soon, but I did miss hearing about it at the end of April,” said Kelly Grace, a fan.

“I usually make a little ritual of it and read my favourite bits of the books at throughout April and maybe watch my favourite episode, and then settle down to hear the announcement that it’s coming on well and should be ready soon.

“I missed that this year.”

It is expected that, as Covid-19 diminishes, Martin’s schedule should get back to normal, and future annual announcements of the new Game of Thrones book coming soon will take place in April, as has become traditional.
