American character suggests using a gun

An American character in a film has suggested that they should use a gun.

The character made the suggestion after being faced with a really minor, everyday difficulty, like going into a dark room, or hearing a small sound in the middle of the night.

“I should get my weapon,” said the character because, apparently, saying ‘gun’ is a little gauche, but they meant gun.

Bizarrely, no one else thinks to go “hang on, your ‘weapon’? Why do you need your gun? I mean, all you’re doing is going into a store where a bottle of orange juice has smashed on the floor. You’re pulling out your gun like there’s Hannibal Lector, the Alien and a battalion of Darth Vader’s stormtroopers in there. Maybe calm down a bit and see what happened first, before you go shooting some random in the face.”

The American then approaches whatever minor challenge they faced, gun raised and ready to fire at anyone and anything. They realise quite quickly that it was, as any normal person would have concluded, something completely trivial and unthreatening, sigh dramatically, holster their gun, and act like if they hadn’t had their gun then anything could have happened.

It is expected that the American character will later deliberately throw their gun on the ground when faced with the tough antagonist at the climax of events in order for the pair of them to have a fist fight.
