After interpreting idiom literally for 478th time, Geordi punches Data in the face

Enterprise Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge has been reminded to custody after punching superior officer Commander Data squarely in the face.

It is understood that Mr La Forge had complained to the Commander that someone had recently given him the ‘cold shoulder,’ Commander Data then asked why someone would deliberately chill the ball and socket arm joint to give to someone else.

“You could see it in Geordi’s face,” said Kelly Grace, an Enterprise ensign who witnessed the incident.

“Something just snapped. He stopped in his tracks. The Commander took another step or too and then turned to Geordi and did that funny quizzical face tic thing he does when he’s confused, he went to say something but Geordi just punched him in the face.”

Commander Data’s unique construction means that he was unhurt, but Geordi was immediately arrested and as he was led away could be heard shouting – ‘It’s an idiom, it’s a f**king idiom, you pr**k.’

After calming down, Mr La Forge was apologetic.

“I am sorry. I really am. But, come on, Data’s been alive for thirty-odd years, he has a positronic brain that gives him a vast IQ. How can he not understand idioms?

“How come whenever I go ‘I gave him a taste of his own medicine,’ he’s like ‘But Geordi, if you had his medicine, isn’t that stealing?’ or if I say we were on a wild goose chase, he says ‘But Geordi, wildfowl are not permitted to be onboard Federation Starships.’

“Can he not just take the time to look up what an idiom is, understand it, commit all the idioms to memory and then we wouldn’t have to go through this every single time.”

It is understood that Geordi will receive a warning, but there will be no official reprimand because, as Captain Picard was overheard saying, ‘Commander Data is an irritating b***ard.’
