Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of the most acclaimed games of recent years, with its vast open world being singled out for particular praise.
However, one gamer was surprised find that alongside volcanos, ruined castles, and complex shrines, Breath of the Wild contains a branch of the popular British pub chain Wetherspoons.
“Yeah, I don’t really know how I got there,” explained Zelda fan Rebecca Coleman.
“I was exploring a bit and I fell of this tower, and then off a cliff, and then off a waterfall, then I was carried down a river, then I got out and just next to this big cave was a Wetherspoons.
“It was actually pretty cool, you could get a pint of lager, listen to an awful DJ and then get into a bit of a fight.
“It was a nice break from duffing up bokoblins and trying to remember where I left my horse.”
Creator Hidemaro Fujibayashi confirmed that the Wetherspoons was a deliberate inclusion.
“Link is a young man,” he said.
“Young men, at the end of a long day, like to visit a Wetherspoons for several pints of lager and to see if they can get off with a sexy lady.
“I thought the Wetherspoons would be a realistic addition to the world.”
With the exciting revelation of the Wetherspoons in Hyrule, rumours abound that the huge world also contains a branch of Ladbrokes, a boarded-up old Woolworths and an accurate recreation of Basildon High Street.
