In a blow for Eddie Murphy fans, experts yesterday announced that Trading Places can no longer be considered a Christmas film.
The announcement follows a year-long scientific study into the film using complicated physics and really hard sums.
“Using scientific metrics that the likes of you couldn’t possibly hope to understand, we have proven conclusively that Trading Places simply isn’t a Christmas film,” explained Kelly Grace, professor of Christmas and Films at Oxford University.
“Whilst there is a lot of snow and Dan Ackroyd does, at one point, dress up as Santa Claus, the Santa Claus suit isn’t very nice and the snow is all grey and has bits in it.
“Coupled with the fact that the dénouement takes place in the New Year, it is clear that Trading Places isn’t really a Christmas film and shouldn’t be considered as such.”
The news will come as a blow to people who enjoy watching the wacky antics of Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd as they decorate their tree.
“Well, that will certainly have to stop,” exclaimed Professor Grace.
“I’d recommend Die Hard instead, as that is definitely a Christmas film, and anyone who says different is just going against science.”
