Tom Hanks has stepped aside from his role as the protagonist in the big-screen version of soft porn journal ‘Razzle’ after accusations that Hollywood are using men in women’s roles to attract bigger audiences.
Hanks agreed to play the lead, Hilda Bigglesworth, in the story that involves her taking her clothes off then posing naked in a variety of ways, none of which appear to follow narratively from the last one.
The plot is confusingly interspersed with readers’ letters that are completely true and definitely not made up by men, pretending to be women, for other men.
Hanks said, “I agreed to take the part without realising that the source material was written for a person of female origin. After serious consideration, I admit that Hollywood’s fascination with male actors may have been at play.
“After three months of undergoing four or five hours of daily makeup to appear as a naked woman, it became clear that perhaps the role should go to someone who already has these bits, you know? Naturally.
“I mean, it’s a good job it was Razzle. Can you imagine how much the make-up time would be if this was Playboy? I could still be in there!
“I have agreed to step down from the project, as this part is for and should always have been played by a woman of the female persuasion.”
