Tom Cruise has signed up to star in the Hollywood adaptation of BBC1’s seminal Party Political Broadcast.
The original show, five minutes in length, will be extended under Peter Jackson’s ‘vision’ into a four-part extended director’s cut trilogy.
In interview on BBC’s Film Year, Cruise admitted, “It’s always been my dream to play the role of a generic politician desperately trying to sound earnest and genuine as she lies, bare-faced, to millions of UK citizens watching.”
Cruise further confirmed his excitement at finally working with Jackson, “Oh yes, I’ve wanted to work with him for a long while now. We’re going to start shooting, just as soon as he returns from his prolonged tour of up his own arse.”
When asked by Claudia Winkleman which specific political party’s message was being translated to the silver screen, Cruise explained, “We’re going to try and keep the actual politics out of it, as focus groups have shown that’s just not want people want to see in this film.
“We really want this to be accessible to those people who find politics wearisome, such as most of Brits, or those who just don’t understand politics in the slightest, such as all Americans.
“However, if this is a success, it could very easily translate into a lengthy franchise. You know, like James Bond.”
