‘Teacher shaves head and has adventures’ - The Screen Idle Box Set Guide

As experts continually debate over whether the times we live in are unprecedented or extraordinary, one thing’s for certain – we’re all watching more box-sets now than we ever have.

From the humble village vicar picking up meth cooking tips from Breaking Bad to the humble meth-cooking drug kingpin picking up vicaring tips from Vicar of Dibley, box sets are more popular now than ever…except 2007, that year was crazy for box sets.

Here’s our box set guide to the very best box sets.

Breaking Bad – Netflix

Teacher shaves head and has adventures. Former pupil becomes sidekick. Like Batman and Robin but with drug-dealing.

Stranger Things – Netflix

Kids find themselves trapped in a Stephen Spielberg film from the eighties. The Upside-Down currently a nicer place than reality.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Amazon Prime

Saddled with the unbelievable and ludicrous premise that a human being could be called Buffy, the show follows the adventures of the man from the Nescafe adverts, the flute girl from American Pie and Buffy the Vampire Slayer as they slay vampires.

Occasionally they slay werewolves, fish-monsters, and tiny demons as well, but don’t bother writing in to complain that the show-title is frequently inaccurate. They don’t respond.

The X-Files – Amazon Prime

Aliens are walking among us and growing bees to put chips (not the food) in people’s heads because Mulder’s dad sold his sister to a shadowy government agency who are trying to promote smoking.

Yeah, that’s the plot, and if you’ve evidence to the contrary then it’s clearly a cover-up to hide the true plot from everyone.

The Wire – Now TV

Everyone, from schoolkids to politicians, are awful to each other in millennial state-of-the-station classic starring more RADA graduates than Harry Potter.

The Sopranos – Now TV

Horrible fat middle-aged men hang out at strip-club and talk about how things aren’t as good as they used to be. Your local pub with more needless executions and girls with balloons for breasts.

Lost – Amazon Prime

They were all dead. Now, go watch any of the above instead. Much more fun.

*Alright, perhaps ‘love’ is pushing it, maybe ‘be mildly diverted by’
