A studio has created Hollywood’s first ‘Middle-Aged Man’s Nostalgia’ subsidiary, dedicated entirely to making films that appeal specifically to middle-aged men on the internet’s sense of nostalgia.
“Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Picard – everything is all about the nostalgia of middle-aged men on the internet,” explained Stewart James, who heads up Thundercat – the new subsidiary.
“So, with Thundercat, we’re specifically created to care solely for the middle-aged man on the internet’s nostalgia. All our films will be specifically things they remember from between twenty and forty years ago, things they perceive to be better than ‘all that modern rubbish’, and something with toys they can buy in a desperate attempt to recapture their youth.”
The first project from the subsidiary will be a reboot of Condorman.
“We call it a reboot because if we say ‘remake’ then the middle-aged men on the internet get cross and say it won’t be as good as the original. Reboot implies more of a through-line from the original which middle-aged men on the internet are more comfortable with.
“But, yes, Condorman first. We’ll have a lengthy casting process to give everyone on the internet chance to chat about who is most suitable for the lead role, ie: who looks most like Michael Crawford. Then we’ll have an exciting reveal of the Condorman costume, then tease a cameo from Crawford. Standard stuff really. It’s very exciting”
The subsidiary has a number of plans beyond Condorman.
“Oh yes. The Black Hole, Battle of the Planets, Rentaghost. It may feel like the current entertainment market is saturated with middle-aged men on the internet’s nostalgia right now, but wait until we really get going.”
