Statistics show that throughout the last month there has been a spike in babies being named ‘Boy’ and ‘Girl’ following the success of Netflix’s Bird Box.
Sarah MacDonald is a new mum from Brighton.
“I had twins and I called them Boy and Girl,” she confirmed.
“I just found the children in Bird Box really inspiring. They were brave and resourceful and that’s what I want my kids to be like, particularly if there’s some sort of global apocalypse.
“So, naming them Boy and Girl should mean they’ll be quite similar to those children in the film.
“That’s how it works, right?”
Sandra Kelly is a scientist who compiled the statistics.
“It’s pretty astonishing,” she confirmed.
“I mean, it’s not unusual to see one or two babies called Boy and Girl because their parents are those sort of ghastly hippies who think names are labels and the children should be able to find their own names and all that nonsense.
“This is significantly larger number than usual, which is a surprise because, you know, Bird Box was alright but not all that.”
The last spike in unusual names came at the height of Game of Thrones’ popularity when hundreds of children were named Reek, Imp and Wall.
