The Oscar nominations were announced last night and, once again, there was disappointment for stars and fans of classic 80s bouncer movie Roadhouse as, for the 34th year running, it was not nominated for an Oscar.
Every year since its release in 1989, the film world has been left stunned by the Academy’s determination to overlook the Patrick Swayze classic.
“I don’t understand what Roadhouse has to do to get some sort of recognition from the Academy,” said fan Paddy Elliot.
“It’s got everything – a horrible baddie, a hero with a great mullet, a truck with massive wheels driving over some cars for some reason.
“I mean, Coda won last year, great movie, but has it got a truck with big wheels? No, so why does Roadhouse keep getting overlooked?”
The Academy were bullish when asked to comment on their bias against Roadhouse.
“The Oscars are for pictures released in the previous year,” said an Academy bureaucrat who simply doesn’t care the public think.
“Roadhouse came out years ago. Of course it hasn’t been nominated.
“Please stop bothering us.”
So, for Roadhouse fans, or ‘normal human beings’ as they’re sometimes known, it is another year of Oscar disappointment.
Perhaps next year, the thirty fifth anniversary of the film, the Academy will finally see sense and award it the record breaking number of Oscars it truly deserves.
It won’t though, it’ll be something about an old woman who’s sick and then gets better. It always is.
