Oscar ceremony to just feature long table full of awards and everyone can help themselves

In a dramatic change of format, the 2019 Academy Awards will just feature a long table with the awards on and recipients can pop in and collect them when convenient.

The long table will be in a community centre in downtown LA and there will be a security guard in place at all times to make sure that only the valid winners will be able to collect their awards.

The winners will be emailed as soon as the votes have been counted and they will have a window of a week to pick up their awards.

They will be required to bring two forms of proof of identity such as a driving licence or a recent bank statement.

If they are unable to collect their award in person, they can send a friend or relative on their behalf, but they will need to call ahead to let the security guard know.

Although there is no orchestra to play music whilst the recipients pick up their awards, organisers have laid on a Bluetooth speaker that recipients can connect to play their own choice of music as they pick up the award.

The security guard has promised to video people collecting their awards on his phone and upload them to Twitter ‘if he remembers.’

Whilst the Academy is happy to remain flexible, a request from Glenn Close to have her dog pick up an award was refused as it would ‘demean the occasion.’

It is still expected to be a more successful ceremony than the one where Rob Lowe danced with Snow White.
