Following several years becoming a tradition, it has now been largely accepted that the ‘true meaning of Christmas’ in 2019 is actually spending December 25th watching back-to-back Carry On films on ITV3.
In the past, Christmas was more a day for religious reflection and family gathering. Happily, though, ITV3’s annual policy of back-to back Carry On films has put a stop to all that.
“Oh definitely Carry On films on ITV3 is the true meaning of Christmas,” laughed Stewart James, a mollusc-scraper from Chelmsford, Essex.
“I mean, it used to be all baby Jesus and going round Mum’s for turkey, but nowadays Christmas is all about Carry On films.
“I’ll get up about 6am, because I’m always too excited. Then I’ll rush downstairs, switch on the TV and wait for the Carry On films to start.
“Don’t know about Mum, I’m sure they have ITV3 in the care home. I should check.”
Mr James has his own tradition of not checking the Radio Times to see which Carry On films are on.
“No, I like to maintain the surprise. I guess that makes me a big kid, but it kind of makes it more special.
“I really hope it’s Carry On Cleo this year, I love Carry On Cleo, me.”
The ITV3 Carry On marathon will begin at around 8am on Christmas Day, probably after a random episode of George and Mildred that someone thought was a good idea.
