In a surprise announcement, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has announced she will be making a third series of her hit sitcom Fleabag and that it will be set in space.
“The two series had taken the character as far as it was possible to take her,” explained Waller-Bridge.
“But only on this planet.
“If we set it Fleabag in space then it becomes a much more open-ended prospect.”
The new series will open with Waller-Bridge’s untitled character abducted by aliens.
After some bawdy jokes about anal-probing, the aliens take her to their home world of Rigel-7 where she forms an inappropriate relationship with the married owner of a space off-licence.
“So, in this new series she’s on Rigel-7 and she’s shagging the space off-licence manager and living in her space-flat with her space-gerbil and she’s really trying to come to terms with who she is,” said Waller-Bridge.
However, that doesn’t mean that any potential series 4 would remain on Rigel-7.
“No, I think that’s the strength of moving Fleabag into space,” explained Waller-Bridge.
“We could set the next series on a different planet and find the character shagging someone else completely inappropriate whilst really trying to come to terms with who she is.”
The news of a third Fleabag series comes in the wake of Waller-Bridge’s surprise announcement that series three of Killing Eve will be set entirely under the sea.
