Cinema-goers throughout the world have found themselves moved to tears by Oscar front-runner Roma, but there was a surprise for those who waited around for the credits to roll as they were treated to a post-credits scene featuring The Avengers.
The scene shows Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America begin to hatch a plan to defeat Thanos after the events of Avengers: Infinity War have taken place.
“Yeah, I heard about this film, this Roma,” explained Marvel Cinematic Universe producer Kevin Feige.
“You know, how it was a profound and beautiful treatise on family and love and I figured that it was perfect for a trademark Marvel post-credits sting.
“People really dig the Marvel post-credits scenes so we thought – hey, why only feature them in Marvel films?
“We think people are going to love it.”
Marvel fans were quick to come up with theories.
“So, okay, so Roma is set in the past. So, I guess this proves that The Avengers are going back in time in the next film to defeat Thanos before he kills everyone,” said Avengers superfan and President of the European Union Donald Tusk.
“You know, that’s pretty clever when you think about it.”
Feige confirmed that fans can expect to see more Marvel post-credits scenes in unusual places.
“Oh yeah, Can You Ever Forgive Me, How to Train Your Dragon 3, the new series of Bake-off, they’ll all have Marvel post-credits scenes,” he said.
“How great is that!”
However, Roma director Alfonso Cuarón, will be disappointed if he was hoping to have a Roma-themed post credit scene in an upcoming Marvel movie.
“No,” laughed Feige.
“We’re not going to be doing that.”
