Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu to feature historically accurate vampires

Robert Eggers has revealed a little more about his upcoming film Nosferatu including the fact that it will have painstakingly researched historically accurate vampires.

His previous film The Northman featured historically accurate Vikings, The Witch had historically accurate goats and The Lighthouse had some of the most historically accurate masturbation ever committed to film.

“One of the things that was most important to me was making sure that the vampires you see in this film are recognisable as the vampires you would see in the late nineteenth century,” said the director.

“There are only a few photographs of vampires from that time, as photography was in its infancy, so they’re our bible. But we’re also going from illustrations and written descriptions of vampires. We don’t want to end up with a sort of modern view of a classic vampire – Gary Oldman with a mad hairdo.”

Stewart James is a Professor of Vampires at Oxford University.

“I have been working a little with Mr Eggers on this picture,” he said.

“It’s enormously gratifying that someone is finally making the effort to put on screen what vampires actually looked like.

“It’s terribly frustrating to see something like The Lost Boys with its vampires depicted in such a fashion. Of course, they didn’t look like that. They didn’t have hair gel.”

As well as historically accurate vampires, there are also unconfirmed reports that the new film will featured werewolves, mummies and Frankensteins, all of which will be meticulously researched and will appear on screen exactly as they would have looked in real life in the time of Nosferatu.
