League of Gentlemen creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have been approached by the government to make the goings on less comedic in a new documentary series Inside No. 10.

Says Pemberton, “We’ve been approached by Theresa May about a documentary project about the goings on in government in order to show the idiots who voted her in exactly what is going on.

“She sat down with Reece and myself and went over what she wants to convey to the public.  She said the raw footage of the documentary at it stands is way too hilarious and needs somebody to ‘punch it down’.

Shearsmith took up the story, “Over the next week we spent in there, I tell you, we could not have made it any funnier if we tried. It’s like the Keystone Cops making a Carry On movie at Benny Hill speed.

“There are comedic characters that are already funny before they’ve said anything. Boris, Govey, Jacobs Rees-Mogg and David Davies: these are people less real than anything we wrote in The League of Gentlemen!

“To be honest, in the end, we had to make it more serious by a good 50%. It was interesting sitting down with Steve for a few months afterwards going ‘take that out’, ‘serious that up’, ‘no one will believe that happened in real life’.

“Honestly, if Brexit happens like they’re planning… well, the end result’ll be awful, but at least we’ll all be in stitches!”

The first series of Inside No. 10 will be broadcast in October.
