There was dismay and outrage as the latest high-profile David Attenborough series seemed to be nothing more than footage of animals doing stuff.
A new trailer showed nothing more than some monkeys in a jungle, yawning and sitting under a tree.
“That’s it? Just some animals mooching about a bit?” asked Johnny Reith, an unemployed apple-bruiser from Chelmsford.
“That’s rubbish, if I want to see animals just doing stuff then I can just go to the park. There’s dogs, birds, squirrels…the missus even says she saw an otter down by the river once.
“What’s the point of watching that on telly?
“Waste of money.”
Approached for a comment, the BBC issued the following statement
“The BBC’s Natural History Unit and Sir David are world-class chroniclers of the natural world and we refute the claim that the new documentary is just ‘animals sitting about.’
“We are also happy to confirm that it will feature neither ‘laser space battles’ or ‘boobs,’ and if that’s what you hope for of a Sunday evening we would suggest ITV might be more to your taste.”
The controversy follows in the wake of complaints about the veteran broadcaster’s previous programme being nothing more than some fish doing things in the water.
