The next instalment in the Planet of the Apes franchise will chart the process of evolution in Planet of the Neanderthals.
Director, Charlton Wahlberg, says, “There are now so many Planet of the Apes films that they have themselves started to evolve.
“There are only so many times you can stretch a couple of hours into a story about apes being angry with humans in a satirical take on humans being their own worst enemies. We’ve now done it more than that many times.
“The unexpected twist in this sequel is that some of the apes start to turn into the humans.
“Clearly, I say ‘unexpected’, but of course everyone knows that’s what actually happened. Sort of. I think. I didn’t really do much research because I’m far too busy.
“I can though exclusively reveal that we are going to use actual apes this time! We’re putting them in motion capture suits and animating them in the parts of the Neanderthals. Obviously, Andy Serkis will still play the parts of the actual apes.
“Then, those apes, having – Spoiler alert – eradicated humans from Planet Earth, evolve into humans and end up in a battle with the apes for control of the planet.
“So, it turns out the whole saga is a sequel and a prequel but all in the same timeline, rather than making everyone confused like all that Terminator shenanigans.
“I promise we’ll eventually get to Return of the War of the Planet of the Future Blob Man Who Used To Be The Humans, which is the kind of work I really want to be doing, if I’m totally honest.”
