A new TV adaptation of Stephen King apocalypse classic The Stand has been announced and, as it is one of his longer books, is set to go on until the end of time.
Featuring the story of a world gripped by a flu epidemic and a cataclysmic battle between good and evil, the book is so big it takes three strong men to lift it and takes a lifetime to read.
“It’s a classic,” said director Josh Boone.
“I mean, I haven’t read it, obviously. But I did spend three weeks reading the blurb on the back of the book and it sounds tremendous.
The book will be adapted by a team of two hundred-odd writers who will spend a year reading different portions of the book.
“We don’t want to miss anything out,” continued Boone.
“Which is why we’ve planning for the adaptation to run until the end of time with around two million or so episodes to really cover the whole story.”
No actors have yet been announced, but it is expected that anyone who is cast will have to sign a contract on behalf of all their descendants to star in future episodes.
The first season is due in 2024 and will introduce viewers to the characters – literally everyone in the world – over the course of several years.
If The Stand proves successful then Boone hopes to move on to King’s epic Dark Tower series of books – an adaptation of which would require time travel to begin season one around the time of the Big Bang in order to fit everything in by the end of time.
I have The Stand (uncut version). It’s in my bookshelf, I lift it myself and read it in 6 months by myself… All this about how big it is and how long it takes to read the book is hogwash… M-O-O-N, that spells hogwash.
2024!?!
Ooooh….. Can I sign up my great great great grand kids up to be extras now?
