New trailer appears to show Godzilla battling Sonic the Hedgehog

A new trailer for the new Godzilla sequel appears to show the titular behemoth battling nineties gaming icon Sonic the Hedgehog.

The brief clip takes in a lush green area, with several gold rings hanging in the air. Godzilla roars, and breathes a stream of atomic fire from his mouth at a small purple hedgehog who, in the blink of an eye, dodges to safety.

Fans of the legendary kaiju are excited.

“Finally, we’re getting to see Godzilla up against Sonic the Hedgehog,” said Godzilla fan and Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan.

“I mean, it’s great to see Godzilla go up against Mothra or Ghidorah, but you always know that ultimately Godzilla would win, but with Sonic the Hedgehog? I mean, you don’t know, do you? Yes, Godzilla has the advantage of size, but Sonic is really quick and he can jump up and bounce on Godzilla’s head which would be both painful and annoying.

“It’s exciting.”

Producer Thomas Tull explained how they came up with the idea of Godzilla battling Sonic the Hedgehog.

“It was pretty late, we’d been through some weird ideas – Godzilla vs Batman, Godzilla vs former Home Secretary Geoffrey Howe, Godzilla vs the concept of alienation – none of them really worked.

“Then my kid was playing Super Mario and suggested Godzilla vs Mario. Obviously, that was stupid so I sent her straight to bed, but it sparked the idea of Godzilla vs Sonic the Hedgehog and, well, here we are.”

The new sequel will be released later this year and, even though it features Sonic the Hedgehog, will still be better than that Godzilla with Matthew Broderick from the nineties.
