New reboot to feature broken, disillusioned alcoholic Scooby Doo

Fans of Scooby Doo are in for a shock as it was revealed that a new reboot will portray the legendary ghost-hunting dog as a broken, disillusioned alcoholic.

Producers said that they have taken inspiration from the Dean Martin character in Rio Bravo.

“We first meet Scoob as he’s slumped, passed out and dirty, on a pile of trash in a rainy alleyway in the rough end of town,” said director Tony Cervone.

“It’s pretty shocking but, you know, it’s 2019. It’s not the sixties, life is different for Scoob nowadays.”

The film reveals that Scooby Doo turned to drink after the breakup of the Scooby gang following Fred’s affair with Velma.

Making a living from appearing at children’s parties, Scooby Doo divides his time between his kennel and the bar, occasionally meeting up with Daphne, now an exotic dancer, for mutual support.

“Look, Scooby’s had a tough life. He’s a dog who’s spent the majority of his life dealing with the supernatural and corrupt local officials, of course he’s going to turn to drink, what dog wouldn’t?”

The film will portray Scooby Doo’s battle with alcoholism in the lead-up to giving the eulogy at best-friend Shaggy’s funeral.

Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated will be released later this year and, if rumours are to be believed, its searing portrayal of canine alcoholism could see it be a real contender at next year’s Oscars.
