Activision has revealed some more details of this year’s Call of Duty game, including the surprising news that it will be a Musical.
The new trailer features a lavishly produced cut-scene starring Emma Stone and Hugh Jackman that depicts the future of bleeding edge warfare through a spectacular dance routine and toe-tapping light-jazz song.
However, the really intriguing news is the musical theatre elements will appear in both the single-player campaign and in multiplayer.
“Yeah, we’re really psyched to be introducing musical theatre into the Call of Duty series,” said game director Gene Berkley.
“It’s something the fans always ask for, they’re like – ‘say Gene, how about more brutal visceral deaths and musical theatre?’ – I’m really happy to say that, this year, we’re able to do just that.”
Gene also took time to explain how the musical theatre element works in terms of gameplay.
“Okay, so throughout single-player and multiplayer modes are Follow-Spot areas. Trigger a Follow-Spot and the screen will darken and a spotlight will shine on your soldier.
“A musical backing track will kick in and the player has to improvise a few lyrics into the microphone regarding the in-game situation, like – ‘Berlin Airport has been taken by insurrectionists, my singing in this game is totally the sexist.’
“In the single-player game, we’ve got an algorithm that will mark your singing and assign points accordingly but in multiplayer, other players vote on how well you did.
“I can see some real grudge sing-offs happening off the back of that voting system.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 or DUTY! As it will be officially titled, will be released in November and will be the first Call of Duty game to have a soundtrack you can give your Mum for Christmas.
