New Assassin’s Creed game to be set in Essex in 1987

There was surprise at the news that Ubisoft will be following up the recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows with Assassin’s Creed: Essex.

Set in the county town of Chelmsford and some of the surrounding villages like Ingatestone and Danbury, the player will take on the role of Big Wayne, a painter and decorator who is part of the ancient Order of the Assassins and must do battle against the Templars and try win back his girlfriend Debbie.

The news that the next instalment in the popular franchise will be set in Essex has come as a bit of a shock to fans who have enjoyed previous games in settings as varied as revolutionary Paris, ancient Egypt, and renaissance Italy.

“Essex in the 80s is a setting we’ve been looking forward to exploring for some time now,” said Assassin’s Creed lead designer Ashraf Ismail.

“You’ve got all these exciting historical changes taking place such as the pedestrianisation of the high street, a new Spectrum game stall in the market, and rumours of a McDonalds opening in the precinct.”

The plot is still something of a secret but it is expected to involve the bouncer at Dukes nightclub who will give you power ups if you’ve got smart shoes on, the group of goths who hang out in the Orange Tree pub who are the leading Templars and antagonists of the game, and you will replenish your health by having a fag in Starburger.

If successful the follow up Assassin’s Creed game will be set last Thursday in Croydon.
