Morbidly obese Garfield dies of heart failure

Popular eighties cat Garfield has died of heart-failure, it has been announced.

The cat, whose love of lasagne saw him become morbidly obese in later life, died of heart-failure.

“Obviously, I’m terribly upset,” said Jon, Garfield’s owner and carer

“But you can’t eat lasagne three times a day and not expect some health implications.

“I mean, by the end Garfield simply couldn’t even sit up to eat the lasagne, he’d just lie there with his mouth open and I’d drop pieces in.”

Garfield gained popularity throughout the eighties with his wry look at life and ability to talk finding him fans across the world.

However, his love of lasagne became an obsession that finally turned into a crippling addiction.

In order to fund his increasingly costly lasagne habit, Garfield made a film in 2004 that was so bad, it effectively killed his career.

Fading from popularity, Garfield became a recluse, only seen by owner Jon and only speaking to demand more lasagne.

“I was just sad,” continued Jon.

“He wasn’t even making wry comments about life towards the end, just demanding lasagne, eating lasagne, and groaning because he’d eaten too much lasagne.

“I’ll just try and think of the good times, when he’d punt that dog whose name no one can remember in the butt.

“Good, good times.”

Garfield’s funeral will take place as soon as they can organise some workmen to remove the window and a crane to lift his enormous body through it.
