McDonalds’ Power of the Dog Happy Meal promotion flops

McDonald’s have admitted that having a promotional Happy Meal based around Jane Campion’s Oscar-winning film The Power of the Dog may have been a mistake.

The Happy Meal, which featured toys based on the characters of cruel rancher Phil Burbank and his brother George and an overriding theme of psychosexual tension, have proved to be a turn-off for McDonalds younger patrons.

“I wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog happy meal,” confirmed disappointed 9-year-old Kelly Grace.

“This is rubbish. It’s just a man in an old-fashioned hat looking grumpy.”

Miss Grace went on to confirm that it wasn’t necessarily the serious and grown-up nature of the toy that bothered her.

“No, I just thought that the film’s examination of the psychology of jealousy and cruelty was a little ham-fisted and really quite trite. Cumberbatch was fine, as always, but I found the whole affair really quite underwhelming

“So I want a SONIC HAPPY MEAL! NOW!”

McDonalds have conceded that the Happy Meal was their least popular since 2017’s Phantom Thread tie-in and they would be looking closely at forthcoming plans for a Happy Meal based on Terence Malick’s upcoming The Way of the Wind.
