Love Island is planning a dramatic new twist to shake things up on the island.
On Thursday, three contestants will be infected with smallpox during the night.
“Yeah, introducing one of the deadliest communicable diseases in history is going to be a real challenge forto the couples,” explained producer Stewart James.
“You know, will the healthy one stick with their partner who is highly infectious, or will their eyes wander?
“I can’t wait to see.”
Producers have yet to reveal exactly which contestants will be infected with Smallpox, only that it will occur during the night on Thursday.
The other islanders will be alerted to the infection immediately and then will have to work together to build an effective quarantine area so that no one else is infected.
The healthy islanders will then be given guidelines on how to treat the infected, and will slowly nurse them back to health throughout the rest of the series.
“I know, right? If there is one thing that’s sure to put a strain on a fledgling romance, it’s smallpox, so it’s going to be fascinating to see how it all plays out,” continued Mr James.
News of the exciting turn of events has sent fans into a frenzy, with many comparing it to 2017, when producers dramatically set a panther loose on the island, leading contestants’ relationships to be tested to their limits as they all spent several weeks hiding up trees
