Costume designs from the new Picard Star Trek series have found their way onto the Internet and seem to indicate the show will be set in 70s Harlem and that legendary Star Trek Captain Jean-Luc Picard will be a funky, badass private eye.
The costume designs feature a knee length leather trenchcoat with wide lapels, flares, and a huge afro wig.
Fans appear divided on the apparent setting.
“I like it,” tweeted @kirksballs
“I mean, the thing with Star Trek is that it’s set in all sorts of different timeliness, from the 24th century to the 21st century, so it makes sense that at some point they were going to set one of the series in 70s Harlem.
“Picard would make a great badass, funky PI as well, shouting ‘yo mama’ as he busts pimps and hustlers and the like.”
However, @Janeawaysbra was less enthusiastic.
“Well, we’ve already done the 20th century in that film when Spock went back to talk to a whale. Also, there were very few aliens and spaceships in 70s Harlem so won’t the Enterprise look a bit out of place? I’m not convinced.”
Producers have yet to comment on the leak expect for the following cryptic tweet.
“The thing with Picard is that he’s a complicated man, and no one understands him but his woman.”
