The new John Wick 3 trailer was released over the weekend and fans have been surprised by just how much fancy baking it contained.
The previous John Wick films have thrilled fans with their stylish gunplay and choreographed fight scenes, but this new trailer contains Keanu Reeves’ character making a cream horn, a Swiss roll and, in what appears to be a climatic scene from the film, a very impressive two-tier stollen.
“We wanted to bring the baking in during the first film,” said John Wick creator Derek Kolstad.
“In fact, we had a great moment where Wick and Winston bake ginger biscuits together but rhythm of the editing meant we had to lose it.”
Surprisingly, Kolstad originally got the inspiration for John Wick from early episodes of The Great British Bake-off.
“Oh sure, I was watching it and there was Mary Berry and she’s a great baker and I got to thinking – ‘what would it be like if she were a world-class assassin?’ – anyway, meetings happened, scripts changed and the Mary Berry assassin thing became John Wick, but I always wanted to keep that whole baking aspect.”
Fans seemed to approve of the new baking aspect.
“Love John Wick. Just always found it unrealistic that you never see him bake a cake. Glad we finally will,” tweeted @Wickspuppy.
John Wick: Treacle Tart of Vengeance will be released later this year.
