Javicia Leslie has been announced as the actress that will take over the role of Batwoman, and everyone on the internet is expected to react with grace, goodwill, and excitement at the news that there will be a black Batwoman.
The fact that Leslie will improve representation of black people within the DCU will certainly be a comfort to many people.
“Brilliant, this new Batwoman looks fantastic,” is the sort of thing that someone on the internet is likely to say.
“And a strong black woman to boot. Well, to be honest, although I’m not terribly bothered either way, I can appreciate that there are black girls out there for whom a black female superhero is going to be a source of empowerment and inclusivity, and therefore I can only applaud the whole enterprise.”
Of course, not everyone on the internet is gifted with similar opinions, so there are lightly to be different views.
“Well, frankly, the DC Universe TV Shows have not been for me,” someone who wasn’t too excited about the announcement might say.
“I guess I prefer my DC superheroes as a feature film experience. But, as I understand some people do enjoy the TV shows, well, I’m just happy for them.”
“The fact that it will have a black female-lead being a problem to me?” They might scoff.
“Of course not, what kind of crazy person would get all cross about TV-shows led by a black female character? It’s not the 1970s.”
On the other hand, there is the tiny possibility that everyone on the internet may react to a black Batwoman by having an epic hissy-fit, threatening to never watch DC shows ever again and setting fire to their limited-edition Aquaman cuddly toy.
