With filming for Top Gun 2 now underway, there are fears that the sequel may feature some sort of hip hop remix of Berlin’s classic Take My Breath Away.
The original version spent 956 weeks at number one in 1985 and is said to be responsible for more school disco snogs than any song until Brian Adams’ Everything I Do in 1991.
“I think the real concern is that someone with a rudimentary knowledge of FL Studio comes up with a ploddy hip hop beat and just layers it under the song,” said Top Gun expert Kelly Kilmer.
“The worst case would then be having some goon like Pitball do a rhythm-free rap over the guitar solo.
“I don’t think any of us deserve that.
It seems likely that Take My Breath Away will make a reappearance in the new film, with some people speculating that it will be a cover of the original by a folk singer with an acoustic guitar, in the manner of the Christmas John Lewis songs that make people want to smash up their television.
“Well, it’s not hugely appealing,” said Kelly.
“But the hip hop remix really is the nightmare scenario.”
Whichever version is decided on, it will appear on the Top Gun 2 soundtrack alongside a version of Playing With The Boys that does some weedy scratching on ‘boys,’ and a drone metal version of Danger Zone.
