The new Exorcist reboot will see the series move into more heartwarming territory with the demon Pazazu taking on the coaching of an orphan’s soccer team as they try to win a local tournament.
“We knew we wanted an Exorcist reboot. We knew we wanted to bring Pazazu back. But beyond that, we were blocked. We weren’t sure how to move the story on,” explained Stewart James, the lead writer on the show.
“It was Cobra Kai that gave us the inspiration we needed. If they could turn Johnny into the hero, then we could turn Pazazu into the hero.”
The reboot will begin with Pazazu taking possession of the soul of a soccer coach. After making his head spin round and vomit on a priest, the coach dies. But when a member of the coach’s team of soccer orphans walks in on the scene, Pazazu feels guilty and agrees to coach the team for that evening, provided they get a new coach in so he can go and possess someone else.
“This is where it gets really interesting,” continues Stewart.
“The demon is charmed by the plucky orphans, doing their best to play soccer against such adversity, and for the first time in eternity he isn’t focussed on possessing anyone and making their head spin round.”
The reboot follows Pazazu as he takes the orphans through the soccer tournament, using his diabolical skills to give them the advantage, and overcoming the prejudice that society often shows to demons.
“It’s definitely a new twist on the Exorcist story, I think people will like it,” laughed Stewart.
It is understood that, if successful, a new heartwarming reboot of Texas Chainsaw Massacre could see Leatherface starting up a cooking school for local families.
