Independence Day

Aliens blow up the White House, so Will Smith has to punch them – don’t worry Will, punching will never get you into trouble – Jeff Goldblum helps by using his laptop to hack into the aliens’ computers and change their search history so it looks like they’ve been looking at really dodgy websites. Then everything blows up because America.

Trivia

Jeff Goldblum hated working with Will Smith and actually murdered him one evening after a difficult and tense day’s shooting.

Since the film’s release, America has celebrated an ‘Independence Day’ every 4th July, presumably because they didn’t realise it was all fictional.

Spencer Tracy was originally considered for the role of the President in the film but sadly he was far too dead too take the role.

In order to achieve the most realistic shot possible, director Roland Emmerich blow up the actual White House and for seven years, whilst it was being rebuilt, all Government business took place in Bill Clinton’s buddy’s garage.

Bloopers

During the scene where Jeff Goldblum’s David Levenson explains that the aliens are coming to invade, Bill Pullman is visible tumescent.

Quotes

“Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I kicked ET’s ass, up in the air” – from the title song
