The Facebook fact-checking department has announced that it will be placing a warning on all references to It’s a Wonderful Life.
The warning reads – ‘The phrase ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is contested and may not be correct.’
“We at Facebook are dedicated to stopping misinformation and false news,” explained the ironically named Stewart James, a Facebook representative.
“Well, alright, maybe ‘dedicated’ is pushing it, but let’s not get into that.
“As the Holiday Season begins, we have seen people start to post references to the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life, and whilst there is no real issue with the film itself, there is some debate over whether or not life is wonderful. I mean, there’s a pandemic, earthquakes, wars, wildfires, that Dolittle film.
“We don’t want to ban reference to the film though, obviously. But the warning just alerts people to the fact that there is some dispute over how wonderful life really is.”
Facebook users welcomed the development.
“No, that’s good, that is,” said Kelly Grace.
“Because some people will see that phrase, that title – It’s a Wonderful Life – and, you know, they might get the impression that it really is a wonderful life when, at best, it’s variable. I mean, you know, flowers, music, the smile on the face of a child, I’m not going to argue that they’re not wonderful, but you do also have rain, broccoli and silent farts, and they’re definitely not wonderful.
“So, it’s good to highlight that.”
It is thought that Facebook may also introduce warnings on references to The Neverending Story which ends and Friday 13th: The Final Chapter which was the fourth out of the series of twelve films.
