Peter Jackson has announced an extended ‘Director’s Cut’ of his Beatles documentary Get Back which will continue on to show the aftermath of the rooftop concert, split-up of the Beatles, and subsequent solo careers.
It will conclude a couple of weeks ago with footage of Ringo Starr going for a nice walk.
“To be honest, I was surprised to find quite how much post-rooftop concert footage there was,” explained Jackson.
“Interviews with John and Yoko, George onstage with Bob Dylan, Paul and his frog chorus, and Ringo doing Thomas the Tank Engine.
“It really adds context to the rooftop concert and I think it demands a director’s cut.”
Jackson intends to spend the next year or so working on the director’s cut of Get Back and then it will be released onto Disney+ in 197 3-4 hour episodes that will take about a month to watch, if you don’t sleep.
Beatles fans were excited by the news.
“To be honest, I never really understood why George doing ‘Got My Mind Set On You’ on Top of the Pops wasn’t included in the original Get Back documentary,” said Stewart James.
“I mean, it was great and everything, but to finish with the rooftop concert just seemed really reductive. This seems like a much more comprehensive view of the story.”
It is understood that when Jackson has finished with the new version. He will immediately begin work on a new ‘Director’s Cut’ of the ‘Director’s Cut’ of Get Back that takes in any new footage of Paul and Ringo that emerged whilst he was making the ‘Director’s Cut.’
