Dune Part 2 to be set largely in Belgium

Further details about Dune Part 2 have been released, including the surprising news that it will be set largely in Belgium.

Although critically and commercially popular, the 2021 hit attracted some criticism for being a little unrealistic.

“What, I’m suppose to believe that there are these other so-called ‘planets’ and they have people living on them? That’s mental,” began the Guardian review of the first film on its release.

“Yeah, maybe we took things a little far with the whole ‘people living on other planets’ thing. I think that’s fair,” said director Denis Villeneuve.

“So, we’re making this new sequel a little more believable. We’re starting by setting it mainly in Belgium. It’s hard to believe there are people on other planets, but I think most people do now believe that there is life in Belgium.

“The whole concept of Dust as a thing was also a little bit out there, so instead we’ll have everyone fighting to control the supply of waffles, and we’re getting rid of sandworms and replacing them with really big dogs instead.”

The director insisted that the changes would only be superficial and wouldn’t affect the scope of the film.

“Are you kidding me? Scope? This film is huge. We’re filming in Brussels, Ghent, Liege and even Rotterdam, we’ve got thousands of Belgian extras and over a million waffles. This is a much bigger film than the first one, just a little more believable.”

Dune Part 2 will be the first sci-fi film set in Belgium since the long-forgotten Star Wars Summer spin-off The Skywalkers in Bruges – a thinly disguised tourist information film in which Luke and Leia tour the popular medieval city.
